Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), waivers from the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, possible government shut downs—any way you look at it, 2011 has been a busy year for education policy. But what was really accomplished? And what must still be realized in 2012?

  • The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pension passed an ESEA reauthorization bill. Will the full Senate vote on the bill?
  • The House Committee on Education and the Workforce passed three bills related to ESEA, but it has not yet addressed the key issues of accountability and teaching. Will the House complete its work on ESEA?
  • More than forty states have requested waivers from NCLB. How many will receive them?

On Tuesday, December 20 from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., ET, join Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia and staff from the Alliance’s advocacy team for a panel discussion of what did and did not happen in 2011 in the way of education policy, and what to expect for 2012. The panelists will also address questions submitted by webinar viewers from across the country.
