The Alliance for Excellent Education held the third in its series of webinars for Project 24. This webinar provided an introduction to one of the gears in the Project 24 framework: use of time.
The Project 24 planning framework examines the extent to which student-centric learning requires changes in the way instructional time is used and the system is able to adapt learning to meet the needs, pace, interests, and preferences of the learner. This transition is made possible through innovative uses of technology for (1) diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments; (2) managing learning; (3) engaging students in learning; and (4) providing anywhere, anytime learning. Such transitions require districts to rethink and more effectively leverage the use of instructional time.
The Project 24 panel of experts, an experienced group of nationally recognized leaders with demonstrated records of success, provided insight into how they approach the use of time for digital learning from the perspectives of a superintendent, chief technology officer, principal, and educator. They also discussed key areas of this gear, including flexible learning options; new designs, schedules, pedagogies, and learning environments that support personalized learning; the role of competency-based learning or progression based on mastery; and strategies for providing extended time for projects and collaboration. Bob Wise, president of the Alliance and former governor of West Virginia, moderated the discussion and panelists addressed questions submitted by viewers from across the country.
